Whatever program we initiate in our life, will be as per the Pre-Directed Guidelines of Allah, the Most Benevolent and the Most Merciful. (6:162)
ا - The letter Aleef denotes Allah. - لٓ - The letter Laam denotes La Ilaha Illa Huwa which means none other than Allah Who controls the whole of the universe. - مٓ - The letter Meem denotes Muhammed.
30:1. This is the Book which is blessed to the Reformist Muhammad Nabi by Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, and who controls the whole of the universe.
31:2. This is a Scripture that contains standard ethics based on clear wisdom.
31:3. This Scripture is a guide and a blessing for those who want to live better in an excellent way.
31:4. These people who want to live better in this way will be guided and they will establish the “Social Reformation Centers” which teach the people to live with moral values. They also extend financial help for community development. They also firmly believe that every human action has its ultimate result. (2: 2-4)
31:5. These are the people who are guided by their Rabbu. And they are the ones who achieve the goal of success in their life. (See 2: 5)
But there are some of the people. They have no ambition in life. They aim to live in luxury with something available.
31:6. Contrary to this, there are people who create sayings as ‘Hadhees’ which are of no use to human life and spread them to the people. Thus, without knowledge, they corrupt themselves, prevent others from coming to the path of Allah’s guidance and make theology ridiculous. The place where such people go will be hell. The reason.
31:7. If you preach guidance to such people, they will go away as if they did not hear anything. If you look at them, they will appear to be deaf. Those who are so proud will turn their faces and walk away. So, explain to them that painful torments will come as a result of the wrongdoings.
31:8. On the contrary, any community which accepts the guidance of Allah devises social welfare schemes accordingly, and does energetic good deeds will be blessed with heavenly life which will have all sorts of facilities.
31:9. As long as they continue to do so, they will have a happy life. (See 8:53) This is the promise of Allah. You will never see any change in this. Because it is the word of Allah, the Almighty with all wisdom.
31:10. If you want to know the great power of Allah, look at the vast sky. Notice how it is spread without any pillars. (See also 13:2) Then consider how the earth in which you live has been created. Notice that this earth has been surrounded by huge solid mountains so that it does not vibrate. And notice that countless creatures have been created on this earth. Also, note that it has periodical rains from the sky and arranged for a variety of plants and trees to thrive through it. Notice also that the plants and trees are created with the best-suited pairs.
31:11. Let them think of the vast innumerable Schemes. Whom do they consider to have created them other than Allah? Are they saying that their imaginary gods have created them? Ask them if they have any evidence for that. Those who create such imaginary deities and commit unjust acts are the ones who go astray. This is the truth.
That means knowing the difference between the creator and the creations. Is it right to consider the natural forces of His creation as creators? Allah is the Creator of all the natural forces. Not only that, but Allah, the One and Only, created all things and set the legal definitions of how they should function. And it is Allah who gave man complete freedom guided him through the reformists and paved the way for him to live according to it. Do the imaginary deities they worship provide such guidance? (See 10:35) What are those guidelines? Some of them are described here in the words of Lukhman Hakeem.
31:12. The fact is that Philosopher Lukhman had the full wisdom of guidance from Allah. He was well aware that one should act according to His guidance and act in faith with gratitude to Allah. Because he knew that only those who acted according to them would get their benefits. Those who acted against them would suffer the consequences and Allah would not be harmed.
He not only obeyed the advices of Allah but also often pointed out the importance of His guidance to his son and guided him. Let us look at some of the guidance he taught to his son.
31:13. Lukhman said to his son, “My dear son! Never set up other gods equating Allah’s majesty or follow any other means equating with His guidance. It is a great injustice to associate anything with Allah.”
Dear Intellectuals! This is not just a story. You must follow his steps. You must continue to instruct your children in the same way as the reformists counseled their children (see 2:132-133). That is why this Quran has been revealed in the language you speak. They need to understand it better and convey Rabbu's counsel to their children and relatives.
Similarly, he taught Rabbu's instructions to his son. To begin with, he advised about domestic affairs first. He explained the guidance about how to behave with his parents. The guidance says:
31:14. “We instructed the man to look after his parents for the services they have rendered to him. Because when he is in pregnancy, she becomes very weak and she carries you with great difficulty. She also breastfeeds her baby for two years. Be grateful to Allah who made such arrangements for your growth and to your parents who fostered you. Do not forget that every action you take leads to the goal set by Allah.” (See also 46:15)
Dear Intellectuals! To be thankful doesn’t mean saying the words thank you¸ thank you, thank you. Acting according to the advice of Allah is the gratitude you pay to Him. Fulfilling the needs of the parents is the gratitude you pay to them. The reason is that when you grow up and reach adolescence, your parents will grow old and become weak. (See 17:23) So you should take good care of them in their old age just as they raised you when you were a child (see 17:24-25).
31:15. Just because you are advised to look after your parents, it does not mean that you have to obey their every command. Speak politely when you talk to them. (See 17:23) But you should only obey their commands if they are under the guidance of Allah. (See also 29: 8) If they are against it, you do not have to accept it. However, it is your job to find out the reason behind their commands. If your parents are under the guidance of Rabbu, you must obey them. Because every action you take will go towards the goal set by Allah. That is, it will have the desired effect. When those effects occur, you will come to know what you were doing.
These are all your homely matters. So, you may think that what we do is not likely to be known to others. You may think that your parents will not tell anyone about your behavior in their old age. But that is not the truth.
31:16. “Every deed you do does not go unnoticed by Allah. Even if your action is of the size of a mustard seed, whether it happened in the bottom of a rock, or the sky, or the depth of the earth, it will surely have its consequences according to the law of Allah. The supreme power of Allah is so minute that He could know the depth of every action.”
31:17. Therefore¸ “My dear son! Establish Socio Reformation Centers (Salath) that teach Allah’s guidance to the people. Inform them what are the good deeds as shown by Him to the people through the Centers. And teach the people to refrain from what Allah outlines as evil deeds. Thus, while engaging in social reform work¸ sometimes you may face harassment. (See 2: 155-156) Do not be discouraged by such obstacles and persevere in your reformation programs. These are all beautiful qualities of heroic achievers.
31:18. Some of the people may turn their faces away while giving His counsel to them. They will make fun of you too. Do not hate them or expose a frown on your face though. You should never be arrogant. Allah never loves those who act arrogantly in this way. (See also 16:125)
31:19. So whatever you do, it is very important to have sobriety and foresight in it. So do not be tense or be excited in your activities. You always have to follow the polite way. And lower your voice as you speak. The most hateful of the voices is the voice of the donkey.
Whether you are preaching the guidance truths to the people or speaking in public about civil life, you need to talk on any subject beautifully. Only then will others be interested in listening to you.
These are all guidelines that every human being must know and follow. They have to follow these and continue to advise their children and close relatives. Is it enough to just give people these advices? There is another part of human life. That is about their livelihood. Find out what the Rabbu’s guidance is about it and preach them as well.
31:20. Allah created everything in the galaxies and the earth in such a way that you can make them use of. Don't you notice this? (See 2:29). He has created everything you need for your life from them. So use them generously and seek the blessings of the Rabbu from them. These livelihoods are explicit and implicit. Don’t you know this? But there are some people, who do not have either enough education or Scriptural knowledge. They argue about Allah's plans without anything like this.
It is incumbent upon man to seek sufficient livelihood using the creations of Allah. Those livelihoods are manifested as grains and fruits. Some of them are hidden on the earth. You can farm and get them. Metals and countless acids and minerals are found buried in the earth. It is never possible for everything to come to you by itself without taking necessary efforts (see 13: 14 & 53: 39) some argue about Allah without knowing all these facts correctly.
Secondly, about some people who lead luxurious life by receiving the blessings of Allah. When they are advised to use those livelihoods for the betterment of society and bring about social harmony as per His guidance, they also argue. (36:47)
31:21. So when you advise them to follow the way of life which has been blessed by Allah, they would say, “No. We will follow only what our forefathers followed.” Their ancestors followed their devilish mental desire and sought destruction. Even now the selfish satanic traits take you to the side of severe suffering. Will you still follow them blindly? (See also 2: 170)
31:22. Any society which is completely submissive to the guidance of Allah devises and works for the best beautiful plans for social equality means that it has surely taken the right path. (See also 2:256) And every scheme of theirs will bring good results as ordained by Allah.
31:23. On the contrary, do not worry about those who refuse to accept His guidance. Every evil deed they do will have evil consequences as per the Pre-Directed Laws of Allah. Surely, His power to know what they are doing and what their thoughts are beyond limits.
31:24. Therefore, all the pleasures available to them will be for time being. Later on, they will be caught in the grip of the consequences of the evil deeds they are doing.
31:25. Ask the people: “Who created the universe and the earth?” They will answer that it was created by Allah. All the creations in the universe and the world are worthy of praise because they are subject to the command of Allah. But most people do not know all these facts.
31:26. Therefore, all those in the universe and on earth are working to fulfill the plans that Allah has ordained. Therefore, whether man lives according to His guidance or not, there will be no harm to Allah. He is needless and admirable.
31:27. Praise be to Him, even if all the trees and plants on this earth were turned into pens and written using seawater as the inks, His praises would not cease. His words of praise do not end with the use of seven such seas as the ink. To that extent, the power of Allah is all-encompassing and all-wise.
31:28. The supremacy of Allah is so infinite that He made the whole human race from the beginning even unto this day is equal unto the creation of one man. That's it. His power in the vast is to hear all and to observe the action of each one closely.
Just as you cannot see all the creations of the world as a whole, you cannot predict the mighty powers of Allah as a whole in one word. Take day and night for example. You can only see one of them. Like that
31:29. Do you not see darkness at night is covering daylight and daylight is vanishing the darkness of night? To your view, these two may seem to be the exact opposite. But in reality, the shortcomings caused in day and night are eliminated by either. Thus, these two become complementary to the other. This is how you get a life. He created the sun and the moon for you to use. All these creations of Allah are functioning according to a fixed time frame. And Allah is aware of everything you do. Therefore, their effects will occur over a period of time.
31:30. These are the grand schemes of Allah. They are all created for constructive purposes. It is untrue to turn away from His guidance, turn to other deities and pray to them (see 13:11). Know that all His Schemes are grand and most superior to all.
31:31. Look at the fast-moving ship at sea to know that Allah's plans are constructive. They carry the livelihoods blessed by Allah. Thus, all the people of the world get the benefit. Surely, these are signs for those who accept the guidance of Allah and live accordingly.
That is, man should use the provisions of Allah for constructive welfare programs. If he uses these for destruction, the harm will not be to Allah. It's for man. (See 31:12) Take, for example, the same voyage.
31:32. If tidal waves like mountains surround them on a voyage, they will seek the help of Allah to recover from them. And at that time, they will be praying to Allah as if they are truly obedient to Him. (See also 10: 22-23) When they return to shore, only a few of them will think and act with neutrality. Most of them will be acting in their own traditional way. How can such people who thus forget to act thankfully be guided? Those who think and act will not find fault with His guidance.
31:33. O Mankind! Do not act like such opportunists. Because the consequences of human actions are an undeniable fact. Think about it and be afraid. During the period when those effects occur, neither the father can help his son nor a son can help his father in any way. This is exactly what is going to happen. This is the practical law of Allah. There will be no change in this. So do not be deceived by the lust of temporary luxurious life. Be careful not to fall into the trap of Satanic impulse, the lure of the mind.
31:34. The question often asked about is when those effects will appear. No one can predict that. Its full knowledge rests with Allah. Not only that, but He also makes it to rain. He also knows about the baby in the womb. Those who have mastered the wisdom of Allah¸ can know to some extent. (See 3: 7) But no one knows what he will do tomorrow. And no one knows where in the world he will end his life. Only Allah knows about this. To that extent He is subtle.
That is, you can predict the chances of rain only after the formation of air pressure in the sky. And only after a woman becomes pregnant, one can predict when the baby will be born. It is only when the evil effects of human actions occur that the facts about it come to his knowledge. But His guidance foretells the consequences of evil deeds in advance.
So, only Allah knows when the long term consequences of human actions will appear. Man has no chance to know. Man must accept this precaution of Allah and act with vigilance. Many of us will look at the evil deeds of the people and say that they would be doomed. But no one can predict when exactly it will occur. It is impossible to say so.
Dear Intellectuals! These are all the instructions that Lukhman Hakeem gave to his son. In the same way, every one of us should teach this guidance to our children so that they are rightly guided in their life and are free from any trouble.
