بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Whatever program we initiate in our life, will be as per the Pre-directed Guidelines of Allah, the Most Benevolent and the Most Merciful. (6:162)
حمٓ١
ح - The Book of All Praiseworthy مٓ - Revealed through Muhammed Nabi
40:1. This Scripture from Allah is praiseworthy and has been revealed through Reformist Muhammad Nabi.
تَنزِيلُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡعَلِيمِ٢
40:2. These Scriptural advices are revealed by Allah, the Almighty, the Wise, the Creator of all things in the universe and the earth.
غَافِرِ ٱلذَّنۢبِ وَقَابِلِ ٱلتَّوۡبِ شَدِيدِ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ذِي ٱلطَّوۡلِۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ إِلَيۡهِ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ٣
40:3. He is the One who announces through this Scripture the ways and means to protect oneself from the evil impacts of errors caused by his carelessness. He is also the one who announces the means to safeguard from the severe consequences of sinful deeds. (See 11:114, 25:70-77) The opportunity provided to man to change in this way reflects Rabbu’s mercy. No power other than Him exists anywhere in the universe. So, if you act against His guidance, you will not be able to recover from the severe punishment. The reason is that every activity moves towards the goal He has set, which means that the consequences will follow.
This is the Scripture that focuses on this. But
مَا يُجَٰدِلُ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَلَا يَغۡرُرۡكَ تَقَلُّبُهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ٤
40:4. Those who have already decided to reject all this theory completely will argue about these legal provisions of Allah. The comforts and status they have gained in their city life are what bring them to this conclusion. Do not be deceived by their course.
The evil deeds they do will be the cause of their destruction. Thus, refusing to accept the guidance of Allah is nothing new. This has been going on for a long time. For example,
كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ وَٱلۡأَحۡزَابُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۖ وَهَمَّتۡ كُلُّ أُمَّةِۢ بِرَسُولِهِمۡ لِيَأۡخُذُوهُۖ وَجَٰدَلُواْ بِٱلۡبَٰطِلِ لِيُدۡحِضُواْ بِهِ ٱلۡحَقَّ فَأَخَذۡتُهُمۡۖ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عِقَابِ٥
40:5. The community of Reformist Nooh Nabi and many societies thereafter used to say that guidance was not right. However, Reformists came to every community to correct them and guide them. But since they supported the false rituals, they blamed the reformist. Did they succeed in their efforts? No. In the end, as per framed laws of Allah, they all perished.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ حَقَّتۡ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَنَّهُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ٦
40:6. Thus the promise of Allah that those who go astray by rejecting His guidance, their destruction of will be imminent, has proved to be true.
ٱلَّذِينَ يَحۡمِلُونَ ٱلۡعَرۡشَ وَمَنۡ حَوۡلَهُۥ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَيُؤۡمِنُونَ بِهِۦ وَيَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْۖ
40:7. But those who uphold the regime established as per the guidance of Allah will not be indulged in vain arguments and wrongdoing. Those who are in charge of the Regime and those who work under it will do their best to fulfill the duties assigned to them in order to make their Rabbu’s programs worthy of praise and admiration. They will act with complete confidence in the plans of Rabbu. Security measures will be taken to prevent any untoward incidents in the country.
رَبَّنَا وَسِعۡتَ كُلَّ شَيۡءٖ رَّحۡمَةٗ وَعِلۡمٗا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لِلَّذِينَ تَابُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُواْ سَبِيلَكَ وَقِهِمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ٧
And the prayers of such activists will be, “O, Our Rabbu! There is no place in the world without Your blessings. Nothing that happens in this world can go unnoticed by you. So, we seek to avoid the wrong ways and follow the straight path that You show us. (See 1:5) So protect us from the effects of wrongdoing done out of negligence. Save us from the torments of Hell.”
رَبَّنَا وَأَدۡخِلۡهُمۡ جَنَّٰتِ عَدۡنٍ ٱلَّتِي وَعَدتَّهُمۡ وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنۡ ءَابَآئِهِمۡ وَأَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡ وَذُرِّيَّٰتِهِمۡۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ٨
40:8. And their prayers will be, “O, Our Rabbu! As You promised, bless us to attain heavenly society with all the resources and joys of life. In such a society, accommodate the followers, their family members, companions, and descendants. Surely, we know that all Your plans can be put into action and that You are wise.”
وَقِهِمُ ٱلسَّئَِّاتِۚ وَمَن تَقِ ٱلسَّئَِّاتِ يَوۡمَئِذٖ فَقَدۡ رَحِمۡتَهُۥۚ وَذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ٩
40:9. “Protect this society from further evil deeds. Because the societies that have turned away from evil deeds are the ones who deserve constant blessings from Your side. They will act realizing that the formation of such a society is a great success.”
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُنَادَوۡنَ لَمَقۡتُ ٱللَّهِ أَكۡبَرُ مِن مَّقۡتِكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡ إِذۡ تُدۡعَوۡنَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِيمَٰنِ فَتَكۡفُرُونَ١٠
40:10. When the consequences of their actions will appear, those who refuse to accept the guidance of Allah will be told, “Today is the day to reproach yourself,”. “The reason is that when you were called towards the right path, you rejected it. So, as per the framed laws of Allah, this hatred has plunged you into torment.”
قَالُواْ رَبَّنَآ أَمَتَّنَا ٱثۡنَتَيۡنِ وَأَحۡيَيۡتَنَا ٱثۡنَتَيۡنِ فَٱعۡتَرَفۡنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا فَهَلۡ إِلَىٰ خُرُوجٖ مِّن سَبِيلٖ١١
40:11. Then they will say, “O Our Rabbu, You gave us life when we were dead and made us live in the world. You have resurrected us a second time after we died. Thus, we got life and death twice. Now we confess our sins. So, is there any way out of these unbearable pains?” (See also 2:28, 37:58, 44:56)
ذَٰلِكُم بِأَنَّهُۥٓ إِذَا دُعِيَ ٱللَّهُ وَحۡدَهُۥ كَفَرۡتُمۡ وَإِن يُشۡرَكۡ بِهِۦ تُؤۡمِنُواْۚ فَٱلۡحُكۡمُ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡعَلِيِّ ٱلۡكَبِيرِ١٢
40:12. To them, the reply will be, “You have refused to accept the call that came to you to obey only the guidance of Allah. You rejected the guidance of Allah and came to rely on other means equating with it. (See 39:45) But today you know for yourself that the rules of Allah transcend everything. So, your wishes will never materialize again.”
هُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُرِيكُمۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ وَيُنَزِّلُ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزۡقٗاۚ وَمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ إِلَّا مَن يُنِيبُ١٣
40:13. The one who explains His guidance does not tell you anything new. He speaks about the creation of Allah and all His mighty powers. Is he not telling you the fact that you get your livelihood only from the rainwater that falls from the sky? So, is there any fault in his statement that except those who think and accept these facts will obey the guidance of Allah?
فَٱدۡعُواْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ١٤
40:14. Even though the invitation towards His guidelines is disgusting to the refuters, keep on advising them to live only in obedience to the life ethics which Allah has ordained.
رَفِيعُ ٱلدَّرَجَٰتِ ذُو ٱلۡعَرۡشِ يُلۡقِي ٱلرُّوحَ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ لِيُنذِرَ يَوۡمَ ٱلتَّلَاقِ١٥
40:15. And inform them, “Gradually you will attain prominence, status, governing authority and all merits if you follow the guidance of Allah.” These are also programs already determined by Rabbu. His plan is to reveal His guidance only through those who are qualified to present these facts to the people. The purpose of such arrangements is to point out the ill effects of wrongdoing.
But people do not respect the counsel of the Reformist just because he is just an ordinary man. Therefore
يَوۡمَ هُم بَٰرِزُونَۖ لَا يَخۡفَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مِنۡهُمۡ شَيۡءٞۚ لِّمَنِ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَۖ لِلَّهِ ٱلۡوَٰحِدِ ٱلۡقَهَّارِ١٦
40:16. The time has come to face the consequences of the evil activities which you have preferred to do. None of your activities can be hidden now. Everything will be decided by the authority of Allah. No authority other than Him will be valid.
So, you can never go back to the world as you wish. The vortex of time will move forward and not be pushed back. O, People! We reiterate that what happens after death, will be the same as what will happen to the communities of the world. That is, when the world is governed in the way as shown by Allah, such torments will be available to those who act unjustly. The Qur’an states that followers of guidance will be given prominence and status. So, the words of the Qur’an should be considered with these two aspects in mind. That is, the same law applies at the time when the regime of Almighty Allah takes place in this world and also in the period following death.
ٱلۡيَوۡمَ تُجۡزَىٰ كُلُّ نَفۡسِۢ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡۚ لَا ظُلۡمَ ٱلۡيَوۡمَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَرِيعُ ٱلۡحِسَابِ١٧
40:17. At such a time, everyone will reap the rewards of the deeds they are doing. Certainly, no injustice will be done to anyone. The regime of Allah will calculate most accurately in issuing judgments.
وَأَنذِرۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡأٓزِفَةِ إِذِ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ لَدَى ٱلۡحَنَاجِرِ كَٰظِمِينَۚ مَا لِلظَّٰلِمِينَ مِنۡ حَمِيمٖ وَلَا شَفِيعٖ يُطَاعُ١٨
40:18. O, Reformist! Convey the message to the people, “Beware of the dire consequences of disobeying Rabbu’s command. When those pains occur, their hearts will suffocate to their throats out of fear. Neither anyone will come forward to help the unjust at that moment, nor anyone's recommendation will be accepted.
But now the unjust culprits are escaping in this world. No one is able to detect the evil activities done openly and secretly. But at the time when Rabbu's reign will take place:
يَعۡلَمُ خَآئِنَةَ ٱلۡأَعۡيُنِ وَمَا تُخۡفِي ٱلصُّدُورُ١٩
40:19. The evil that the eyes do and that which they conceal in their hearts will come to the fore according to the decree of Allah. No one can escape any punishment.
وَٱللَّهُ يَقۡضِي بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَقۡضُونَ بِشَيۡءٍۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡبَصِيرُ٢٠
40:20. Do not take this as a mere threat. These are the facts that have happened, are happening, and will continue to happen. No one can change this. There can be no lasting benefits by rejecting Allah’s guidance, creating imaginary deities, and following other means. Let them know that Allah has the power to know everything. That is, they will certainly reap the rewards and consequences according to their deeds.
Do they think that everything written in this Scripture is a story? If so
۞أَوَلَمۡ يَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَيَنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُواْ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ كَانُواْ هُمۡ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قُوَّةٗ وَءَاثَارٗا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمۡ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَاقٖ٢١
40:21. Let them travel and look around the world. They will understand the fact how the communities that lived before this were destroyed. Only then will they understand the truth. The community was many times stronger and more affluent than they are. But because they did not accept the guidance of Allah and engaged in evil deeds, they became entangled in the law of Allah, “The ultimate consequences of human deeds.” Still, these people cannot escape that grip.
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَانَت تَّأۡتِيهِمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَكَفَرُواْ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ قَوِيّٞ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ٢٢
40:22. Those catastrophes did not happen to them without precaution. Instead, the Reformists came to them. They made every point clear and concise. But they did not heed those precautions. So, they were caught in the grip of destruction which was to befall them as per the framed laws of Allah. They realized then how severe the effects of the devastation were.
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ بَِٔايَٰتِنَا وَسُلۡطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٍ٢٣
40:23. In the same way, the inspiring guidance and clear proof were given to Reformist Moosa Nabi too by Rabbu.
إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَهَٰمَٰنَ وَقَٰرُونَ فَقَالُواْ سَٰحِرٞ كَذَّابٞ٢٤
40:24. But Firdaus, the emperor of Egypt, Haman the religious clergy in his court, and Haroon, the wealthy man, did not accept the advice of the Reformist Moosa Nabi. When he explained the truth of His guidance, they said that they were deceptions that seduce the people.
فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ مِنۡ عِندِنَا قَالُواْ ٱقۡتُلُوٓاْ أَبۡنَآءَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ مَعَهُۥ وَٱسۡتَحۡيُواْ نِسَآءَهُمۡۚ وَمَا كَيۡدُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَٰلٖ٢٥
40:25. Reformist Moosa Nabi narrated these truths to his people. As the advice spread, the above three power mongers feared that their rule would be in jeopardy. So, they decided to capture and kill the brave men among those who accepted the Reformist Moosa Nabi and to let the valiant cowards alive. Consider how bad the decision of the conspirators was.
وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ذَرُونِيٓ أَقۡتُلۡ مُوسَىٰ وَلۡيَدۡعُ رَبَّهُۥٓۖ إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُبَدِّلَ دِينَكُمۡ أَوۡ أَن يُظۡهِرَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلۡفَسَادَ٢٦
40: 26. Then Fir’aun said to his council, “Allow me to decide about the case of Moosa. Only then will he know whether I am stronger or his Rabbu. If you leave him alive, he will convert the people of the country from your religion. I fear this will lead to chaos in the country.”
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنِّي عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُم مِّن كُلِّ مُتَكَبِّرٖ لَّا يُؤۡمِنُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡحِسَابِ٢٧
40:27. To which Moosa Nabi declared, “I have decided to leave you as you all act arrogantly and disprove the law of Allah, “The consequences of human actions”. That is, I want to act according to the guidance of Rabbu of you and me, and I seek refuge only in Him.”
وَقَالَ رَجُلٞ مُّؤۡمِنٞ مِّنۡ ءَالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ يَكۡتُمُ إِيمَٰنَهُۥٓ أَتَقۡتُلُونَ رَجُلًا أَن يَقُولَ رَبِّيَ ٱللَّهُ وَقَدۡ جَآءَكُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ مِن رَّبِّكُمۡۖ
40:28. One of the scholars of Allah’s guidance from Fir’aun’s community addressed to the council, “Will you kill a man for saying, “Allah is my Rabbu who created and sustains me?” Everything he says is substantiated.
وَإِن يَكُ كَٰذِبٗا فَعَلَيۡهِ كَذِبُهُۥۖ وَإِن يَكُ صَادِقٗا يُصِبۡكُم بَعۡضُ ٱلَّذِي يَعِدُكُمۡۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهۡدِي مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفٞ كَذَّابٞ٢٨
So, if what he says is a lie, its harm will come to him. But if his statement is correct, then his declaration will come true. So those destructions will befall us! The reason is that those who transgress will never get the guidance of Allah.”
يَٰقَوۡمِ لَكُمُ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ ظَٰهِرِينَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَمَن يَنصُرُنَا مِنۢ بَأۡسِ ٱللَّهِ إِن جَآءَنَاۚ قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ مَآ أُرِيكُمۡ إِلَّا مَآ أَرَىٰ وَمَآ أَهۡدِيكُمۡ إِلَّا سَبِيلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ٢٩
40:29. And the scholar said, “O my people! You have the power to rule today. Your domination is going on in this country. Yet when the punishment of Allah comes upon us, there is no way out of it! Have You ever thought about it?” Upon hearing this, Fir’aun interrupted him and said, “I tell you, what is right in my mind is the right algorithm. I think the right way is to kill Moosa.”
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِيٓ ءَامَنَ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُم مِّثۡلَ يَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَحۡزَابِ٣٠
40:30. The learned scholar did not care for this and he continued his argument. He said, “O my community! I am afraid that you would be destroyed like the communities that have been destroyed before.”
مِثۡلَ دَأۡبِ قَوۡمِ نُوحٖ وَعَادٖ وَثَمُودَ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡۚ وَمَا ٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ظُلۡمٗا لِّلۡعِبَادِ٣١
40:31. And the scholar said, “I am afraid that you would be pushed to the worst condition just like the people of Nooh, Aadhu, Samoodhu and the communities after them. All those destructions were the result of their evil deeds and no injustice was done by Allah.”
وَيَٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلتَّنَادِ٣٢
40:32. And the scholar said, “O my people! I fear the time is Fastly approaching when those destructions will occur. In that case, no one can help and I fear that such a crisis will arise.”
يَوۡمَ تُوَلُّونَ مُدۡبِرِينَ مَا لَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۡ عَاصِمٖۗ وَمَن يُضۡلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِنۡ هَادٖ٣٣
40:33. And the scholar said, “Fear the destruction that will befall you as per the framed laws of Allah. No one can save you if happens like that! You will be pushed into such a predicament! Whoever rejects the guidance of Allah, then no one can guide him!” said.
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ يُوسُفُ مِن قَبۡلُ بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَمَا زِلۡتُمۡ فِي شَكّٖ مِّمَّا جَآءَكُم بِهِۦۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا هَلَكَ قُلۡتُمۡ لَن يَبۡعَثَ ٱللَّهُ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ رَسُولٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفٞ مُّرۡتَابٌ٣٤
40:34. The Scholar further said, “In the past, Reformist Yusuf narrated the guidance of Allah to the people of that time with clear evidence. He preached His guidance throughout his life. However, the doubts you had in His guidance which he showed were never resolved. After he passed away, you were telling that Allah would never send any messenger. Thus, those in the community who think in the opposite way and go beyond the limits without having clear knowledge will go astray as per the framed laws of Allah.”
ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَٰدِلُونَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيۡرِ سُلۡطَٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمۡۖ كَبُرَ مَقۡتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعِندَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَطۡبَعُ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ قَلۡبِ مُتَكَبِّرٖ جَبَّارٖ٣٥
40:35. The Scholar said, “There are many who are still engaged in baseless arguments about the revelations of Allah. In this way, the mindset of such arrogant people gets sealed as per the framed laws of Allah. So, they lose the capacity to understand the truth.”
After hearing all this, Fir’aun understood nothing. Because he had too much arrogance. So
وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ يَٰهَٰمَٰنُ ٱبۡنِ لِي صَرۡحٗا لَّعَلِّيٓ أَبۡلُغُ ٱلۡأَسۡبَٰبَ٣٦
40:36. He said, “O Haman! Build a high tower for me. Only then can I go upstairs.”
أَسۡبَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ فَأَطَّلِعَ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّي لَأَظُنُّهُۥ كَٰذِبٗاۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَصُدَّ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِۚ وَمَا كَيۡدُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِلَّا فِي تَبَابٖ٣٧
40:37. And he said, “I must pass through the skies and see Moosa’s Allah. I think Moosa is lying because this is not possible.” The reason for such a statement was that all the evil deeds he had been doing seemed beautiful to him. So, his mindset did not consent to be guided. So, he plotted against Moosa Nabi. But all his conspiracies were doomed to ruin.
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِيٓ ءَامَنَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱتَّبِعُونِ أَهۡدِكُمۡ سَبِيلَ ٱلرَّشَادِ٣٨
40:38. When the scholar heard this, he said, “O my people! Think over what I have told you. It will show you the perfect straight path.”
يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنَّمَا هَٰذِهِ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنۡيَا مَتَٰعٞ وَإِنَّ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ هِيَ دَارُ ٱلۡقَرَارِ٣٩
40:39. And he said, O my people! When compared to the lasting happiness that comes from following Rabbu’s guidance, all that you have at present is worthless.”
So come forward to act according to Rabbu’s guidance.
مَنۡ عَمِلَ سَيِّئَةٗ فَلَا يُجۡزَىٰٓ إِلَّا مِثۡلَهَاۖ وَمَنۡ عَمِلَ صَٰلِحٗا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوۡ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤۡمِنٞ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ يَدۡخُلُونَ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ يُرۡزَقُونَ فِيهَا بِغَيۡرِ حِسَابٖ٤٠
40:40. The Scholar said, “Whoever goes astray will have his share of its consequences. Anyone who accepts the guidance of Allah and works creatively for the betterment of the community is considered to be the best follower. Their social structure will develop to be similar to paradise. And their livelihoods will be commensurate with their work.”
۞وَيَٰقَوۡمِ مَا لِيٓ أَدۡعُوكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلنَّجَوٰةِ وَتَدۡعُونَنِيٓ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ٤١
40:41. And the Scholar said, “O my people! I do this advice to save you from imminent destruction that would befall you. But you are calling me to the other side that will take me to the torment of hell!”
تَدۡعُونَنِي لِأَكۡفُرَ بِٱللَّهِ وَأُشۡرِكَ بِهِۦ مَا لَيۡسَ لِي بِهِۦ عِلۡمٞ وَأَنَا۠ أَدۡعُوكُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلۡغَفَّٰرِ٤٢
40:42. The Scholar said, “You call upon me to follow other means equating with the guidance of Allah and to act against Him. But I can't act like this. Because the call I make to you is towards the guidance of the One who has the supreme power to create and control everything. Those who act in the way He has shown will be safe from all dangers of life.”
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّمَا تَدۡعُونَنِيٓ إِلَيۡهِ لَيۡسَ لَهُۥ دَعۡوَةٞ فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَلَا فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ مَرَدَّنَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَأَنَّ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ هُمۡ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ٤٣
40:43. And he said, “Whichever way you call upon me, it will not benefit you in any way for a better life. They are of no use in the present life or the future stable life. Because every action we take will go towards the goal set by Allah and will have its consequences. So, if we engage in extravagant activities, our lives will turn into hell.”
فَسَتَذۡكُرُونَ مَآ أَقُولُ لَكُمۡۚ وَأُفَوِّضُ أَمۡرِيٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بَصِيرُۢ بِٱلۡعِبَادِ٤٤
40:44. The scholar said in front of the council, “If you deeply think over what I say, you will realize that the torments of Hell are approaching fast. Or you will understand the truth for yourself in the future when those torments befall you. So, I have decided to act only according to the guidance of Allah. Because I know that Allah is watching over everything I do.”
These are the contents of guidance which the scholar narrated to his people. It seems that some of the Fir’aun community too have accepted the guidance. That is why he boldly stated these things in the presence of the council.
فَوَقَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ سَئَِّاتِ مَا مَكَرُواْۖ وَحَاقَ بَِٔالِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوٓءُ ٱلۡعَذَابِ٤٥
40:45. Thus, Reformist Moosa Nabi took all necessary steps to protect himself from the conspiracies of the Fir’aun community. So as per the canon of Allah, he escaped from Fir’aun’s plots. But as the days passed on, as he announced, tragic devastation engulfed the Fir’aun community.
ٱلنَّارُ يُعۡرَضُونَ عَلَيۡهَا غُدُوّٗا وَعَشِيّٗاۚ وَيَوۡمَ تَقُومُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡخِلُوٓاْ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ أَشَدَّ ٱلۡعَذَابِ٤٦
40:46. The afflictions that came upon them were continuous day and night. Not only that but when the consequences will worsen, the community of Fir’aun will be thrown into a hell of torments. Those pains will be much worse than this. (See 7:133, 28:42)
وَإِذۡ يَتَحَآجُّونَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ فَيَقُولُ ٱلضُّعَفَٰٓؤُاْ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوٓاْ إِنَّا كُنَّا لَكُمۡ تَبَعٗا فَهَلۡ أَنتُم مُّغۡنُونَ عَنَّا نَصِيبٗا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ٤٧
40:47. If you happen to see those suffering from the torments of Hell, you will find them crying due to unbearable pains. (See 14:21, 33:67, 34:32, 37:27-29, 38:60) Then they would ask their clergies and community leaders who were misleading them, whether they could take a part of suffering from them.
قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوٓاْ إِنَّا كُلّٞ فِيهَآ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَدۡ حَكَمَ بَيۡنَ ٱلۡعِبَادِ٤٨
40:48. Then the chief of those who were arrogant would say, “We ourselves are afflicted. Allah has given us the right judgment.”
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ لِخَزَنَةِ جَهَنَّمَ ٱدۡعُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ يُخَفِّفۡ عَنَّا يَوۡمٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ٤٩
40:49. And those who suffer the torments of Hell will call on the Guardians of Hell and say, “Ask your Rabbu to relieve us of this torment at least for one day.”
قَالُوٓاْ أَوَ لَمۡ تَكُ تَأۡتِيكُمۡ رُسُلُكُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِۖ قَالُواْ بَلَىٰۚ قَالُواْ فَٱدۡعُواْۗ وَمَا دُعَٰٓؤُاْ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَٰلٍ٥٠
40:50. The Guardians of Hell will say, “Did not the Reformists come to you with clear proofs?” To which the inmates of Hell would reply, “Yes. They came.” You have been thrown into Hell for disobeying the guidance and acting against Allah. When that is the case, how can we pray to Allah to alleviate those sufferings? So, pray to Allah for yourself.” So how can the prayers of those who acted against His guidance be fruitful?
إِنَّا لَنَنصُرُ رُسُلَنَا وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ فِي ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا وَيَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلۡأَشۡهَٰدُ٥١
40:51. The truth is that the help of Allah is guaranteed to those who preach His guidance and to those who willingly accept His guidance. Those aids are not only available in their present life, but also in their future life when they reap the benefits of their good deeds.
يَوۡمَ لَا يَنفَعُ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ مَعۡذِرَتُهُمۡۖ وَلَهُمُ ٱللَّعۡنَةُ وَلَهُمۡ سُوٓءُ ٱلدَّارِ٥٢
40:52. On the contrary, those who have been involved in unrighteous deeds will lose their dignity and no one will value their speech. None of their requests will be considered. All the blessings received from Allah will gradually cease. Thus, their situation will worsen.
وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰ وَأَوۡرَثۡنَا بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ٥٣
40:53. And We bestowed Moosa Nabi, the Scripture which contained such facts. It was a guide for the descendants of Israel. They became the legal guardians of the Vedas because they accepted and followed them.
هُدٗى وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِأُوْلِي ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ٥٤
40:54. And the Scripture was the best guide to their better life. It was a Scripture with good advice for the wise who think and act.
Just as Reformist Moosa Nabi persevered and guided the Israelites to the right path,
فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقّٞ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرۡ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلۡعَشِيِّ وَٱلۡإِبۡكَٰرِ٥٥
40:55. You too should advise the followers of Our guidance not to get upset by temporary obstacles and carry out His programs cool and calmly. Allah's promise to help those who do so will never go wrong. So, pay your full attention to the task of wiping out people’s grief. Work tirelessly day and night to make all of Allah's projects worthy of praise. (See 47:19 48: 2) Your ambition is sure to come true.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَٰدِلُونَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيۡرِ سُلۡطَٰنٍ أَتَىٰهُمۡ إِن فِي صُدُورِهِمۡ إِلَّا كِبۡرٞ مَّا هُم بِبَٰلِغِيهِۚ فَٱسۡتَعِذۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡبَصِيرُ٥٦
40:56. Instead of thinking and accepting these things, the people argue about the guidance of Allah without any evidence. This is because of the arrogance in them. But they can never succeed in that. Do not worry about their arguments and make security arrangements as per the guidance of Allah. Do not forget that Allah is the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing.
That is, the actions of everyone are monitored. Their effects will be as per the determined laws. And atheists do not stop reasoning against this guidance. They will also take some steps to subjugate your programs. You also need to take defensive measures at that time. It must be done according to the canon of Rabbu. (See 8:60). And they will argue about the supremacy of Allah.
لَخَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَكۡبَرُ مِنۡ خَلۡقِ ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ٥٧
40:57. Ask them if it is difficult to create the universe and the earth or to create the man who lives on this earth. (See 79:27) Most people do not know anything about the immeasurable powers of Allah.
So, they imagine Allah, give Him an image, and tell stories that He has a wife and children. Allah is beyond all this. Therefore
وَمَا يَسۡتَوِي ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ وَٱلۡبَصِيرُ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَلَا ٱلۡمُسِيٓءُۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ٥٨
40:58. Will those who live blindly in superstition and those who act diligently on anything become equal? In the same way, will those who accept the guidance of Allah, devise creative social welfare schemes, and do powerful deeds will be equal to those who corrupt society? Yet, very few of you think about it and get good advice.
إِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَأٓتِيَةٞ لَّا رَيۡبَ فِيهَا وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ٥٩
40:59. That is, a time will come when every individual or community in the world will face the consequences of their actions. No one can change this framed law. According to this law of Rabbu, good deeds are defined as good deeds and evil deeds as evil. But the tragic fact is that the majority of the people do not accept it.
وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدۡعُونِيٓ أَسۡتَجِبۡ لَكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ عَنۡ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدۡخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ٦٠
40:60. Has your Rabbu laid down for you hard rules? Do you have any doubts in your mind? He answers them through this Quran. If you have any doubt in the whereabouts of Allah, He clears your doubts. (See 2:186) If you have any problems in your life, He shows the guidance to solve them through this Quran. (See 42:51) If you want to get all the livelihood you need, He advises you to work through the administrative system He has created. (See 53:39-40) Thus, those who abandon submission to Him and act arrogantly, will be pushed towards miserable lives as sufferers.
Because Allah is the one who made all the arrangements for you to live better. (See 2:29) The purpose of His guidance is to help you to lead a better life with them. For example,
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيۡلَ لِتَسۡكُنُواْ فِيهِ وَٱلنَّهَارَ مُبۡصِرًاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَذُو فَضۡلٍ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَشۡكُرُونَ٦١
40:61. Allah is the One who created the night for you to take rest and the bright day for your sustenance. There is no doubt that all these arrangements are a blessing of Allah. However, most people do not accept the advice of Allah and act in faith and gratitude.
That is, no one can survive on this earth if the night or day is static. Livelihoods are available to the people of the world and other living beings only by the arrangement of alternating day and night. None of these are human arrangements. So, it is the advice of Allah that people from all walks of life should live in unity and better life by sharing those livelihoods in a balanced manner. To live like that is a debt of gratitude that man owes to Rabbu.
ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡ خَٰلِقُ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُؤۡفَكُونَ٦٢
40:62. Allah is your Rabbu, the Nourisher of the worlds who made such great natural arrangements. It is through those arrangements that you get all the things you need for your livelihood. This arrangement can never be made by anyone other than Allah. The truth is that instead of following His instructions, you are acting in a different direction. (See also 29:61) How can it be correct?
كَذَٰلِكَ يُؤۡفَكُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُواْ بَِٔايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجۡحَدُونَ٦٣
40:63. In the same way, the people who lived before this raised unnecessary controversy about the guidance of Allah rejected it and went astray.
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ قَرَارٗا وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بِنَآءٗ وَصَوَّرَكُمۡ فَأَحۡسَنَ صُوَرَكُمۡ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّكُمۡۖ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ٦٤
40:64. And Allah, the Exalted in Mighty powers, reduced the heat of the earth, which at one time was mingled with a volcanic eruption (see 41:11), and made it suitable for you to dwell in. He is the One who created the galaxy skies to protect the earth from the gravity of other planets. (See 21:32) He is the One who created you beautifully and made available to you pure and healthy food. Thus, Allah is the Creator of all the natural creations you need. Is there an alternative view that the power of Allah, the Creator, and Sustainer of the universe, is vast?
هُوَ ٱلۡحَيُّ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱدۡعُوهُ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَۗ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ٦٥
40:65. All the grand projects of Allah, the Rabbu, the Nourisher of the whole world, are everlasting. No one else's management takes place anywhere in the world except Him. So, obey only the standard guidance revealed by Almighty Allah. As a result, your community will be better. Everyone who enjoys it will praise Allah, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, for His grand plans.
۞قُلۡ إِنِّي نُهِيتُ أَنۡ أَعۡبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدۡعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَمَّا جَآءَنِيَ ٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتُ مِن رَّبِّي وَأُمِرۡتُ أَنۡ أُسۡلِمَ لِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ٦٦
40:66. O, Reformist! Tell the people, “I too have been commanded to live in obedience to the guidance of Allah. So, when the clear guidelines of Allah have come, will I leave them and follow other means? (See 6:114) I am commanded to obey the instructions of Allah, the only one, Who created and sustains all the universes.”
هُوَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٖ
40:67. If you want further proof about the immeasurable mighty powers of Allah, the One and Only Nourisher, then think a little about your own creation. The beginning of your creation originated from the nutrients of inanimate soil.
ثُمَّ مِن نُّطۡفَةٖ ثُمَّ مِنۡ عَلَقَةٖ
After that, it went through many stages and human creation began to emerge from the sensory drop. (See 32: 7-8) The organ drops into the woman's womb and turns into a lump called ‘alak’.
ثُمَّ يُخۡرِجُكُمۡ طِفۡلٗا ثُمَّ لِتَبۡلُغُوٓاْ أَشُدَّكُمۡ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُواْ شُيُوخٗاۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ مِن قَبۡلُۖ وَلِتَبۡلُغُوٓاْ أَجَلٗا مُّسَمّٗى وَلَعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ٦٧
Thus, the child is born after passing through many stages. (See 22: 5, 23: 13-14) Then the child gradually grows into adolescence as you are. Then you become older. Some of you die in the meantime. In this way, you get the ability to grow, think and act for a certain period.
هُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۖ فَإِذَا قَضَىٰٓ أَمۡرٗا فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ٦٨
40:68. According to this grand plan of Allah, life and death continue to take place in this world. As per His long-term plan, if He seeks to create any project, they will be systematically created and reach their ultimate form as per time-frame. (See 32:5) There is nobody’s hindrance in His Creations.
That is, the life and death of societies also occur just as life and death are determined in the case of the individual. The relevant laws have also been determined. Countries that act according to His guidance will be hygienic societies with all their resources. But look at the way of life that man has created for himself without His guidance. Despite the economic progress, there are many problems, conflicts, and many afflictions. Rabbu’s guidance seeks to eliminate differences of opinion in the country and to create a peaceful and virtuous society. (See 2:213)
أَلَمۡ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يُجَٰدِلُونَ فِيٓ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ أَنَّىٰ يُصۡرَفُونَ٦٩
40:69. But they argue about the guidance of Allah without any wisdom. What about them? Why do they want to deviate from the straight path?
This is because they want to live as per their own will and pleasure. Allah’s interference in their life in the form of “Guidance” is a big headache for them
ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِٱلۡكِتَٰبِ وَبِمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا بِهِۦ رُسُلَنَاۖ فَسَوۡفَ يَعۡلَمُونَ٧٠
40:70. Those who disregard the framed laws proclaimed in the Qur’an and advices given by the reformist will soon come to know about the consequences.
إِذِ ٱلۡأَغۡلَٰلُ فِيٓ أَعۡنَٰقِهِمۡ وَٱلسَّلَٰسِلُ يُسۡحَبُونَ٧١
40:71. Thus, they will fall into the snare of evil habits, which will lead them to the torments of Hell.
فِي ٱلۡحَمِيمِ ثُمَّ فِي ٱلنَّارِ يُسۡجَرُونَ٧٢
40:72. And the state of those afflictions will be like how one will suffer if he falls into boiling water. This is how their faces will appear.
ثُمَّ قِيلَ لَهُمۡ أَيۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تُشۡرِكُونَ٧٣
40:73. Then they will be asked, “What happened to the imaginary gods whom you thought would save you?”
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِۖ قَالُواْ ضَلُّواْ عَنَّا بَل لَّمۡ نَكُن نَّدۡعُواْ مِن قَبۡلُ شَيۡٔٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ٧٤
40:74. Where are the leaders who deviated you from the guidance of Allah and went astray? Then they will say that everything has disappeared from them. And they will argue that we did not worship anything other than Allah. These are the harms of rejecting His guidance.
The reason is that instead of following the guidance of Allah, they worshiped Allah and thought that the responsibility was over. (See Chapter 107) But is it fair to disregard His advice and act arrogantly like this?
ذَٰلِكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَفۡرَحُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَيۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَبِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَمۡرَحُونَ٧٥
40:75. This is the reason for this disgrace which you experience now. This is the punishment for those who were involved in unjust activities in the country and were overwhelmed by the ruling power they enjoyed.
ٱدۡخُلُوٓاْ أَبۡوَٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَاۖ فَبِئۡسَ مَثۡوَى ٱلۡمُتَكَبِّرِينَ٧٦
40:76. So the gates of the torments of Hell will be opened one by one. There is no chance of them coming out. The shelter of those who act with pride and arrogance will be very bad.
فَٱصۡبِرۡ إِنَّ وَعۡدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقّٞۚ فَإِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعۡضَ ٱلَّذِي نَعِدُهُمۡ أَوۡ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِلَيۡنَا يُرۡجَعُونَ٧٧
40:77. This promise of Allah will surely be fulfilled. O, Reformist! You just have to be more curious in carrying out social programs as per Our guidance. You will see in your lifetime some of the sufferings that would befall them as promised. Even if you pass away before the full extent of their torment, they will never escape the torment of "consequences of human deeds" prescribed by Allah. (See also 13:40)
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلٗا مِّن قَبۡلِكَ مِنۡهُم مَّن قَصَصۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ وَمِنۡهُم مَّن لَّمۡ نَقۡصُصۡ عَلَيۡكَۗ
40:78. The occurrence of such a condition is not new. Many Reformists came before you. We have informed you of the historical facts of some of them. We have not told the history of many.
وَمَا كَانَ لِرَسُولٍ أَن يَأۡتِيَ بَِٔايَةٍ إِلَّا بِإِذۡنِ ٱللَّهِۚ
The reason is that in the case of all the reformists they followed the same guidance of Allah. They conveyed to the people whatever the commands of Allah were.
فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمۡرُ ٱللَّهِ قُضِيَ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلۡمُبۡطِلُونَ٧٨
Therefore, at the time of the appearance of the "consequences of human deeds" as prescribed by Allah, each of them received a fair reward and effect commensurate with what he had done. Those who rejected the guidance on that basis were at a great loss.
ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمَ لِتَرۡكَبُواْ مِنۡهَا وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ٧٩
40:79. All of Allah's projects are for creative purposes. Take a look at cattle farming for example. They are also designed to help you. You use some of them as a means of transportation. You use some as food.
وَلَكُمۡ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ وَلِتَبۡلُغُواْ عَلَيۡهَا حَاجَةٗ فِي صُدُورِكُمۡ وَعَلَيۡهَا وَعَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ تُحۡمَلُونَ٨٠
40:80. And among them are various benefits for you. In addition to these cattle, there are many other means of transport. They also include ships that carry you to travel as you wish.
وَيُرِيكُمۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ فَأَيَّ ءَايَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ تُنكِرُونَ٨١
40:81. These are the signs of the supreme power of Allah. Think about it and come forward to act in the way He showed. Which of the supremacy of Allah can you deny? So why do you refuse to accept His guidance?
أَفَلَمۡ يَسِيرُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَيَنظُرُواْ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۚ
40:82. And if you need to know about His Supremacy, then travel around the world. Find out how many communities that were involved in evil deeds prior to you have suffered terrible consequences. (See 6:10-11)
كَانُوٓاْ أَكۡثَرَ مِنۡهُمۡ وَأَشَدَّ قُوَّةٗ وَءَاثَارٗا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ فَمَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَكۡسِبُونَ٨٢
They outnumbered you and were richer and stronger. Their techniques had grown to such an extent they could make various monuments with them. Despite their strength, they could not prevent the devastation caused by their evil deeds. So, all the developments they have achieved have gone in vain.
فَلَمَّا جَآءَتۡهُمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَرِحُواْ بِمَا عِندَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡعِلۡمِ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ٨٣
40:83. The reason is that the Reformists who came to them presented guidance with clear evidence, but they refused to accept them in the guise of technical art which they had. So, they were mocking at His guidance. It was those jokes that surrounded them as harm.
فَلَمَّا رَأَوۡاْ بَأۡسَنَا قَالُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَحۡدَهُۥ وَكَفَرۡنَا بِمَا كُنَّا بِهِۦ مُشۡرِكِينَ٨٤
40:84. At the time when the torments befall them, they said that they would accept
the guidance of Allah only. They said that they would set aside the clergy who taught them about imaginary gods.
فَلَمۡ يَكُ يَنفَعُهُمۡ إِيمَٰنُهُمۡ لَمَّا رَأَوۡاْ بَأۡسَنَاۖ سُنَّتَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِي قَدۡ خَلَتۡ فِي عِبَادِهِۦۖ وَخَسِرَ هُنَالِكَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ٨٥
40:85. So when the torment was approaching them as per the framed laws of Allah, their hope did not bear fruit. This is the permanent law of Allah. The same thing has happened to the communities of the past. So, there is no benefit for such people who claim to believe His guidance on the verge of destruction.
That is, wealth and technology alone are not enough. There should be moral values, foresight, and a broad mindset within the people of the society. Only then will they could develop into a bright community and have lasting happiness. Otherwise, they will face destruction. This is the advice of the Holy Quran.
